Jazz is a musical art form which originated around the beginning of the 20th century in Black communities in the Southern United States from a confluence of African and European music traditions. He was an American jazz guitarist and considered to be one of the most influential figures in the genre following only a handful of other musicians such as Charlie Christian. Others headed directly north to Chicago , which rapidly became the jazz capital of the United States.

Di tahun 1920-an musik jazz telah berkembang di New York, Chicago, Memphis dan kota-kota besar di Amerika Serikat. Therefore jazz came to be related with the decadence that was going around in this era. In 1987, the United States House of Representatives and Senate passed a bill proposed by Democratic Representative John Conyers, Jr. to define jazz as a unique form of American music, stating:.

Ballets are performed by trained dancers and often accompanied by professional orchestras or the music from famous composers, such as Tchaikovsky.

Though ragtime only graced the music scene for a few years, it influenced what would become referred to in 1915 as jazz music. Although jazz-rock fusion reached the height of its popularity in the 1970s, the use of electronic instruments and rock-derived musical elements in jazz continued in the 1990s and 2000s.
